06Bellagio Conservatory · Sphere · High Roller · one show
Day 6 is the Strip on this trip's terms: curated, mostly free, timed for maximum wow per dollar. The Strip is a backdrop to walk through, not a gauntlet to survive. Start at the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens — free, open 24/7, replanted five times a year (the fall harvest and winter holiday displays are the great ones). Twenty minutes, Nevada's most beautiful free sight.
Afternoon: the Sphere
The Sphere (255 Sands Ave, by the Venetian) is the orb that redefined the venue — and The Wizard of Oz immersive experience is the reason to go inside: the 1939 film on a 160,000-square-foot wraparound screen, cut to 75 minutes, with wind, fog, and snow in the seats. Tickets run from ~$105, ages 6+, multiple shows daily — book direct, pick a matinee. Even without a show, the Exosphere after dark is worth the trip.
Evening: fountains, wheel, one show
Back on the boulevard: the Fountains of Bellagio (free — every 30 minutes afternoons, every 15 evenings) never get old. Then the High Roller — 550 feet, North America's tallest observation wheel — after 8pm, when the whole valley is lit. Cap the night with one show: residencies rotate constantly, so check the lineup when you book. One headliner, best available seats — this is the splurge night the trip was saving for.
Where to stay
Same downtown base — the Strip is 15 minutes by rideshare. The one-night splurge alternative: Bellagio (from ~$250, fountain-view rooms), The Venetian (from ~$220, all suites), or Cosmopolitan (from ~$280, best balconies). If you splurge, do it tonight.
Bad-weather plan
The Strip is the ultimate bad-weather day — the Conservatory, the Sphere, and the show are all indoors. Rain only sharpens the neon.
Downtown → Strip: ~15 min · Bellagio Conservatory: free · Sphere: from ~$105 · High Roller: 550 ft
Strip rule: Walk one side of the boulevard, not both — the Bellagio–Caesars–Venetian stretch covers the highlights without the 4-mile death march.
