Fly into Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) — about 20 minutes to the beach. A rental car is the move for a family: everything on this route is a 15–25 minute drive. Check in, change, and get to the sand. The beach runs 27 miles, and the sand is the selling point: sugar-white quartz that stays cool underfoot even at midday.
Claim your stretch near your condo — the beach is public along its whole length. Late afternoon is the golden window: the sun drops over the Gulf (this is a sunset coast), the crowds thin, and the water is at its warmest. Swim, build the obligatory sandcastle, then walk the shoreline as the light goes gold — pelicans cruise the surf line and dolphins often feed just beyond the breakers.
Dinner is a PCB rite: shrimp baskets and grouper sandwiches at a beachfront spot like Schooners — the local institution right on the sand. After dinner, walk the beach after dark with flashlights for ghost crabs — the kids' favorite free activity. Restrooms: use your condo. Bad-weather pivot: WonderWorks on Front Beach Rd (upside-down building, 2–3 hours).
The plan
- Land at ECP; rental car to the beach (~20 min via FL-79); check in and change.
- Late-afternoon swim and sandcastle session near your condo's beach access.
- Sunset dinner at a beachfront spot; ghost-crab walk after dark.
Where to stay
- Holiday Inn Resort Panama City Beach — beachfront with a lagoon pool and kids' splash zone; the classic family pick.
- Shores of Panama — condo-style suites with full kitchens and a huge pool deck.
- Origin at Seahaven — newer beachfront resort steps from Pier Park, easy for tomorrow's plans.
Day 1 → Day 2: St. Andrews State Park is ~20 minutes east on Thomas Dr. Pack the cooler and snorkel gear tonight — tomorrow starts early.
