05Apr 10.
Day 5 is parade day — Saturday, April 10, 2027, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on Constitution Avenue (9th–15th streets), 10 a.m.–12 p.m. Free to watch (grandstand $28–$45). Marching bands, giant blossom floats, celebrities. Then Sakura Matsuri (the Japanese street festival, Pennsylvania Ave, ticketed) — taiko drums, street food, crafts.
Morning: the parade
Be on Constitution Avenue by 8:30 a.m. — the curb fills by 9:30. The parade (10am–12pm): bands (100+ members each), floats (the blossom princesses), balloons. The grandstand ($28–$45, buy at the festival site) is the comfortable option. Kids: the pink pom-poms ($5).
Midday: Sakura Matsuri
Walk to Sakura Matsuri — the Japanese street festival on Pennsylvania Ave (ticketed, ~$10). Taiko drumming, kimono fashion show, Japanese street food (takoyaki, yakisoba, taiyaki). The crafts market (ceramics, textiles). This is the cultural heart of the festival.
Afternoon: the festival
The National Cherry Blossom Festival has 150+ events — the Kite Festival (Washington Monument grounds, free), Petalpalooza (fireworks, ticketed), art installations. Or just walk the Basin again — the blossoms are still there.
Where to stay
Same Mall base. Tonight: the parade day dinner — Zaytinya (José Andrés, Mediterranean) or Founding Farmers. The festival energy is the nightcap.
Bad-weather plan
Rain on parade day? The parade runs in light rain (bands march). For a washout, Sakura Matsuri has covered areas, and the Smithsonian is the backup.
Parade Apr 10, 10am-12pm · Free (grandstand $28-45) · Sakura Matsuri ticketed · Arrive 8:30am
Parade rule: 8:30 a.m. or bust. The curb on Constitution Ave fills fast, and the 10 a.m. start means the good spots are gone by 9:30. Bring a blanket, snacks, and patience.
