02Nov 19-Dec 23.
Day 2 is the German Christmas Market — Nov 19–Dec 23, 2026, free admission, spread across six sites in Old Québec. This isn't one fenced market; it's woven through the city: Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville (the main Marktplatz), Jardins de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, Place d'Armes (the Christmas Castle), Rue Sainte-Anne, Place D'Youville (the Alpine Village), and the Holy Trinity Cathedral courtyard. Over 125 wooden chalets selling bratwurst, glühwein (mulled wine), gingerbread, and Québec terroir.
Morning: the Marktplatz
Start at Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville — the largest site, the main stage, the puppet theatre. Hours: Thu–Sat 11am–9pm, Sun 11am–6pm (Nov 19–Dec 20); Dec 21–22 11am–9pm, Dec 23 11am–8pm. Go at 11 when the chalets open — the crowds build by 2 p.m. Try the bratwurst ($12 CAD, ~$9 USD) and the first glühwein ($8 CAD, ~$6 USD).
Midday: walk the six sites
Walk the circuit: Hôtel-de-Ville → Rue Sainte-Anne (the Church Alley) → Place d'Armes (the Christmas Castle) → Place D'Youville (the Alpine Village). Each site has its own character; the alphorn concerts rotate. Lunch is market food — pretzels, raclette, tarte flambée.
Afternoon: the Alpine Village
Place D'Youville is the finale — the Alpine Village with the outdoor rink right in the market. Skate ($10 CAD rental, ~$7 USD), then the last chalets. The market is free; budget $50–$80 CAD per person (~$37–$59 USD) for food and drink if you graze all day.
Where to stay
Same Old Québec base. Tonight: the market after dark — the lights at Place d'Armes are the photo.
Bad-weather plan
The market runs in snow. For a real blizzard, the Holy Trinity Cathedral (1804, the first Anglican cathedral outside the British Isles) is warm and open, and the Musée du Fort ($12 CAD) covers an hour.
Nov 19–Dec 23 · Free · 6 sites · 125+ chalets · Thu–Sat 11–9, Sun 11–6
Market rule: Go hungry and bring a reusable cup — the market encourages it, and the glühwein tastes better in your own mug. Thursday or Friday beats Saturday.
