01Bozeman Airport · US-191 · Mountain Village
Day 1 is a travel day with a payoff. Land at Bozeman Yellowstone International (BZN) — Big Sky sits about 50 miles south, roughly 1 hour up US-191 through the Gallatin Canyon. Three ways up: the Karst Stage shuttle (~$50/person — book ahead in winter), the Skyline Bus Link ($5, every 2 hours, ~1h25m), or a private transfer (~$179/group). Skip the rental car unless you’re adding Bridger Bowl.
Afternoon: settle into Mountain Village
Check in, then handle logistics while the light is good: grab rentals at a village shop (reserve online), and buy lift tickets online tonight: ~$84 on select dates to $289 at the peak window, ~10% off in advance. Learn the village: lifts, ticket windows, heated sidewalks.
Evening: first dinner, early bed
Keep it easy — you’re at 7,500 feet and the altitude is real. Dinner in Town Center: Olive B’s Big Sky Bistro (the romantic pick) or Andiamo for Italian; in the village, the Carabiner Lounge for a nightcap. Hydrate, skip the third beer, bed by 10 — tomorrow’s groomers wait for no one.
Where to stay
One Mountain Village base for all four nights — moving costs half a ski day. The Summit Hotel (ski-in/ski-out, heated pool; ~$205 low season, $400+ peak), Huntley Lodge (slopeside, Chet’s Bar & Grill, Solace Spa; from ~$198), or Shoshone condos (ski-in/ski-out kitchens, studios from ~$175). Town Center is cheaper with more dining, but you lose ski-in/ski-out mornings.
Bad-weather plan
Whiteout arrival? Let someone else drive — take the shuttle, not a rental car. Delayed flight? Eat in Bozeman (Montana Ale Works) and shuttle up in the morning.
BZN → Big Sky ~50 mi / ~1 hr · Karst Stage ~$50/person, book ahead · Skyline Bus $5, every 2 hrs · Village altitude 7,500 ft — hydrate
Ticket rule: Buy lift tickets online tonight, not at the window tomorrow. Peak Saturdays hit $289 at the window; advance purchase saves ~10%.
