Land, settle in, and walk straight to Coligny Beach Park — the island's best public beach access. Twelve miles of broad, hard-packed Atlantic sand. The water is warm (mid-70s to low-80s in summer), the waves are gentle, and the beach is wide enough that you'll never feel crowded. Coligny has free parking, outdoor showers, shaded rocking chairs, free Wi-Fi, and splash pads for the kids.
Across the street, Coligny Plaza has 60+ shops, ice cream parlors, and casual seafood shacks. This is your evening ritual: beach all afternoon, dinner and ice cream at the plaza. No reservations, no lines, no stress. The island's pace sets in immediately.
Afternoon: the plaza ritual
Coligny Plaza isn't a mall — it's the island's living room. Coligny Theatre shows first-run movies (a rainy-day backup), and the plaza's farmers market runs Tuesdays (seasonal). For dinner, Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks (15 min north, on Skull Creek) is the locals' pick — hushpuppies, she-crab soup, and sunset over the marsh. Or keep it simple: pizza from Giuseppi's eaten on the beach as the sky goes pink.
Where to stay
